How We Met

In May of 2012, Alyna was planning to go visit her brother in Albuquerque. As she was looking at plane tickets, she decided, in the spur-of-the-moment, to go to Atlanta instead to visit her sister, Jessica, who had recently moved there. She bought the ticket on the spot and was all set for a visit. She flew out and had many wonderful adventures. She and Jessica went to church on Sunday, June 24th,  and despite being tired, decided to go to a Munch-n-Mingle afterwards. Usually the ward was split into three groups and sent to different bishopric members’ houses, but this particular Sunday, the only available house was the Roos’s.

Several years earlier, Kevin graduated from high school and decided to be awesome and race through college, attending full time as well as working full time. With taking two years to serve a mission, he graduated in 2011. He was planning on working for a year or two and then getting an MBA. That summer, however, he decided to take the GMAT for a practice run. They gave him the opportunity to send his scores to 5 schools for free. Never one to pass up a deal, Kevin chose two lofty schools, MIT & Stanford; two local schools, BYU & U of U; and one extra. After some thought and consideration at the testing center, Kevin felt he ought to put in ASU.

After getting his scores back and being surprised at his own brilliance, he also received an offer from ASU to enter their MBA program. However, they were offering for 2011, instead of 2012, which was the year for which he applied. After prayerful consideration, he decided to attend ASU and so, less than a month later, he was at student orientation.

The following summer, Siemens took a look at their résumé’s and requested an interview with Kevin. Had they not, Kevin never would have considered them. And frankly, the premise was a bit of a stretch to begin with. He flew out to Atlanta, prepared to have a fun, relationship free summer. He joined the singles ward there, and happened to go to a certain Munch-n-Mingle on the 24th of June.

Alyna was standing off to the side, being awkward because she didn’t know anybody, and frankly, because she’s Alyna. Kevin saw her and decided to talk to her. He rallied his new wingmen to fend off other interested parties, and started talking to her. She picked up on his very subtle flirtation after he complimented her outfit thrice and invited her to go grocery shopping with him the following day to buy the frosting she was telling him was the best kind. She was rude and decided to go zip lining on her last day of vacation instead, but he was not discouraged! He kept up conversation with her the rest of the afternoon, well after her sister had fallen asleep.

Kevin left numberless that evening, not because Alyna had refused (because that would definitely not have happened), but because he had forgotten to ask. He made up for it by begging it off her sister, and they haven’t stopped talking since.
